Phone script: manufacturer urgent need line
You are close to running out of insulin and need the fastest route through a manufacturer program. Regular applications take weeks. Urgent tracks exist and are rarely advertised.
Before you send this
OPENING "Hi, my name is [YOUR NAME]. I have type 1 diabetes and I have [NUMBER] days of insulin left. I need to know the fastest option you have, including any urgent or immediate need process, not the standard application timeline." THE KEY QUESTION "Do you have an urgent need or immediate supply pathway? If so, what does it require and how fast does it move?" IF THEY POINT YOU TO THE STANDARD APPLICATION "I understand. How long does standard processing take right now, in days? Is there anything that can bridge me until then? Can my prescriber call in directly?" WHAT TO CONFIRM BEFORE YOU HANG UP - Exactly what documents they need, and whether a photo or fax is acceptable - Whether they can fax the form directly to my prescriber at [FAX NUMBER] - Whether the medication ships to me or to my prescriber's office - The direct phone number and hours for follow-up - A reference or application number ALSO ASK "If I do not qualify for the free program, do you have a discount or savings card I can use today at the pharmacy? What is the phone number or website for that?" CLOSE "Can I have your name and a reference number for this call?" IF THIS DOES NOT SOLVE IT TODAY Call a federally qualified health center near you and ask whether they have an in-house pharmacy with 340B pricing and whether they can see you today. Ask your pharmacist about state emergency refill rules, since many states let a pharmacist dispense an emergency supply of insulin. Do not ration. Rationing is what causes DKA.
